Steps
- In your AskAI dashboard, open Install on your website and copy your script line. It already contains your own site key.
- In WordPress, go to Plugins → Add New and install a well-reviewed plugin for adding header and footer code (search for “header footer code”). Activate it.
- Open the plugin’s settings and paste the line into the footer (body end) box, set to run on the whole site.
- Save. If you use a caching plugin, clear its cache.
- Open your website in a private window and check that the AskAI button appears.
- Back in your dashboard, press Check installation. When it says the line was found, the assistant starts learning your website.
Other ways
- Theme setting: many themes have Custom code, Scripts or Footer scripts under Appearance → Customize or the theme’s own options page.
- Child theme: developers can add the line just before
</body>in the child theme’sfooter.php. Do not edit a parent theme directly; updates would remove it. - WordPress.com: adding scripts needs a plan that allows plugins or custom code.
Members and logged-in areas
When you are signed in to WordPress, the assistant notices it and only notes the page address and title — never the content you see as an admin or member.
Updated November 1, 2026. Menus in website builders change from time to time; if a step looks different, look for “custom code” or “code injection”.
